Upcoming Events

We have been busy preparing the Veterinary Assistant Certificate Program at Brookdale Community College for NAVTA approval. We are very excited about the credibility that NAVTA acknowledgment will give the program, and that it will nurture future CVT's in New Jersey!

The NJVTA was invited to exhibit at a special event at the Meadowlands Race Track on August 6th.  The "2010 Hambletonian Continuing Education Veterinary Meeting", will be attended by our president,  Tracy Turner, CVT, in an effort to expand our membership into the equine world.

Jessica Kerr, CVT and Ali Gottlieb, CVT are in the process of making arrangements for the NJVTA to do a fall project at a local animal shelter - cleaning up, some light construction, painting, etc. to help improve the living arrangements for shelter animals!

Please check back often for updates!

April 2010

Our Spring Conference, "The Veterinary Healthcare Team - Making a Difference in Pets' Lives" was a complete hit and we enjoyed a strong attendance!   We had 3 tracks this year - CVT, veterinary assistant, and, a brand new track for client service!  Our hope is to attract every member of the veterinary healthcare team to the NJVTA and provide education and support to all. We were honored to have the New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association  President, Dr. Anthony DeCarlo, a strong supporter of the NJVTA, speak on "Delivering Exceptional Client Service" for the client service track, as well as deliver a lively and fun keynote address at our luncheon. Robin Del Bove CVT, Adjunct Faculty, Bergen Community College was presented a plaque in appreciation of her many years of dedication as New Jersey's State Liaison to NAVTA.

June 2010

Two members from our board, Jessica Kerr, CVT  and Ali Gottlieb, CVT hosted a seminar in June in northern NJ titled "Recognizing and Reporting Animal Abuse and Neglect" by Dr. Laura Collins, co-author of Animal Abuse:  Recognizing, Documenting, Reporting and Testifying for NJ Veterinarians. The lecture was given at a Tabby's Place Cat Sanctuary

www.tabbysplace.org  to enhance the public awareness of this important topic.

Robin Delbove, CVT, and Harriet Teredemos, CVT, both on the credentialing committee and educators at the Bergen Community College AVMA accredited Veterinary Technician Program, hosted the NEVTEA (Northeast Veterinary Technician Educators Association) Annual Meeting in June. The seminar provided educators in the tristate area - from college

directors to externship sites - information on current topics, events, and issues concerning veterinary technician education on the east coast. We thank Harriett and Robin for their continued efforts to grow technicians in the Garden State!
